Short answer
Both make high-quality stills from text, but they suit different jobs. On KreatorFlow, Seedream 5.0 Pro renders at 1.5K and 2K with up to 10 reference images, and Seedream 4.5 goes up to 4K with up to 14 references and 4 images per run, in 8 aspect ratios. Midjourney's official docs (checked 6 October 2026) describe V8.2, the default version since July 24, 2026, as focused on aesthetics, image quality and personalization: four images per prompt, square images at 1024 x 1024 px (SD) or 2048 x 2048 px (HD), and an Edit Model that takes up to 4 reference images. Midjourney is strongest for exploring a look; Seedream for keeping a face or product the same across many images and taking them into video.
Updated:
How to compare them fairly
- 1
Use the same prompt
Write one idea with subject, setting, light and framing, and use it on both models. Drop Midjourney-only parameters such as --ar and pick the aspect ratio in the menu instead.
- 2
Match aspect ratio and size
Same aspect ratio and the closest size on both. Note anything that does not match.
- 3
Test with references
Repeat the test with your product photo or your character: that is where the models differ most.
- 4
Compare an edit too
Ask for one specific change (a new background, a different outfit) and check whether everything else stays the same.

What Midjourney V8.2 does well
Midjourney V8.2 became the default version on July 24, 2026. Its docs describe it as an update focused on aesthetics, image quality and personalization, and it brings the new Edit Model, which replaces Omni Reference, Character Reference and the Retexture tool.
Style is where Midjourney stands out: style references (--sref) and style codes, personalization profiles and moodboards keep a recognizable look across projects. Each prompt returns four images by default, which suits exploring. Text goes inside double quotation marks, and the docs say it works best with short words in the Latin alphabet. It can also turn an image into a 5-second video and extend it up to 21 seconds.
What Seedream 5.0 Pro and Seedream 4.5 do well
Seedream is ByteDance's image model family. On KreatorFlow, Seedream 5.0 Pro is the model for final, detail-heavy stills: it renders at 1.5K and 2K (at most 2K) with up to 10 references, for 2 credits at 1.5K or 3 at 2K. Seedream 4.5 costs 2 credits per image at any size up to 4K, takes up to 14 reference images and makes up to 4 images per run.
References and characters are its strength: add photos of a face, a product or a style, or save a character once (4 credits) and call it by its @handle to keep the same person across a whole set. Any image can then be edited with a text prompt or used as the first frame of a Seedance 2.0 video. KreatorFlow is an official partner of BytePlus, ByteDance's enterprise AI platform.
Which should you use?
Neither wins everywhere. A quick guide based on what each model documents:
- Exploring looks and building a personal style: Midjourney (style references, style codes, personalization).
- Four variations of one idea to choose from: Midjourney, which returns four per prompt.
- The same face or product across a campaign: Seedream, with up to 14 references and saved @handle characters.
- Many references in one image (a product from several angles plus a model): Seedream (up to 14; Midjourney's Edit Model takes up to 4).
- A highly detailed final still at 2K: Seedream 5.0 Pro; at 4K: Seedream 4.5.
- Images that go straight into a video ad: Seedream with Seedance 2.0 in the same studio.
- Generating from your own code: Seedream (KreatorFlow developer API); Midjourney's guidelines say it does not provide an API.
Where Seedream on KreatorFlow fits best
Pick Seedream on KreatorFlow when the image has to match something real: your product, your character, a set that has to stay consistent. Saved characters, reference-heavy edits and a direct path into video with Seedance 2.0 sit in the same account, and you see the credit cost before you generate.
Plenty of teams use both: one to explore a look, the other for the production set that has to stay the same from image to image.
Frequently asked questions
Which is better, Seedream or Midjourney?
It depends on the job. Midjourney V8.2 shines at exploring looks (style references, personalization, four variations per prompt). Seedream shines with many references (up to 14) and saved @handle characters, and on KreatorFlow it takes images straight into video with Seedance 2.0. The most reliable test is the same prompt on both.
What resolution does each model make?
On KreatorFlow, Seedream 5.0 Pro renders at 1.5K and 2K (at most 2K) and Seedream 4.5 at 1K, 2K and 4K. According to its docs, Midjourney V8.2 makes square images at 1024 x 1024 px (SD) or 2048 x 2048 px (HD).
How many reference images can each one use?
Seedream 4.5 takes up to 14 and Seedream 5.0 Pro up to 10. Midjourney V8.2's Edit Model takes up to 4, on top of style references.
Can I keep the same character across images?
Yes, on both. On KreatorFlow you save a character once (4 credits) and call it by its @handle in any prompt. On Midjourney V8.2 you use reference images in the Edit Model, which replaces Character Reference.
Can I use them from my own code?
Seedream, yes: KreatorFlow has a developer API. Midjourney's community guidelines say that, with a few rare exceptions that are explicitly granted, it does not provide an API, and automating the service is not allowed.
Where do the Midjourney facts come from?
From Midjourney's official documentation (docs.midjourney.com), checked 6 October 2026. The sources are listed under the table. Anything those pages do not state clearly is left out, and so is every price.
