Lip sync made for drawn faces

Anime faces are not human faces: big eyes, small mouths and flat colour. Lip Sync runs ByteDance's OmniHuman 2.0, which animates anime and cartoon characters as well as people, through BytePlus (KreatorFlow is an official partner of BytePlus, a ByteDance company). The mouth opens and closes on the syllables while the eyes blink and the head tilts with the line, so the clip reads like a scene, not a photo with a moving mouth.

It is a fit for motion comics, character channels and original anime projects where you have the art and the voice and want the character to deliver the line.

How to make an anime character talk in three steps

  1. 1

    Upload the anime character

One clean illustration or key-visual style frame of your character, facing the viewer with the mouth visible. Characters you generated or saved can be picked from the library.

  2. 2

    Add the voice

Upload a voice line or song (MP3 or WAV, 4 seconds to 5 minutes), or make a Japanese, Korean or English line in the Audio studio and pick it.

  3. 3

    Generate

Add an optional direction, choose 720p or 1080p and press Generate. The price is shown first: 4 credits per second at 720p.

Tips for anime characters

  • Clean art, visible mouth. A sharp illustration where the mouth is drawn, not hidden by hair, a hand or a mask.
  • Front or three-quarter view. A face in profile or very small in a wide background gives a weaker result.
  • Simple backgrounds hold up better. A flat colour or soft room background keeps the style steady over a long take.
  • Ask for anime motion. In the direction, ask for anime-style lip sync, an unchanged character design and a static or slow camera. You can also name what to avoid, such as a realistic mouth or flicker.
  • Pick a voice that fits the design. The performance comes from the audio, so cast the voice carefully.

Anime and the rules

  • Use characters you designed, generated or have the rights to
  • Fan videos of published characters can infringe their owners' rights
  • Nothing sexual or suggestive with characters that look under 18
  • Use voices and songs you have the right to use

Consent and responsible use

Lip Sync makes the person in a photo say whatever the audio says, so it comes with clear rules. On the website you confirm, the first time you generate with a new photo, that you are that person or have their permission. Photos are screened before anything is charged, and photos with nudity or of minors are refused.

  • Use a photo of yourself, or of someone who has given you permission to make them speak. A character you created, an animal or a drawing is fine.
  • Use a voice you have the right to use: your own, one of our voices, a voice you cloned with consent, or a recording you have permission for. The same goes for any music or song.
  • No sexual content, nothing involving anyone under 18, and no impersonation: never make a real person appear to say something they did not say in order to mislead, harass or defraud.
  • No celebrities, politicians or other public figures unless they have given you permission and you hold the rights for that use.
  • When you post a talking video of a real person, say that it is AI-generated. Many platforms require that label.

Read the full rules in the Acceptable Use Policy on real people's faces and the Terms.

Anime lip sync questions

How do I make an anime character talk?

Upload one image of the character to KreatorFlow Lip Sync, add a voice line, and press Generate. OmniHuman 2.0 animates the mouth, eyes and head to the audio while the art style comes from your image.

Does it keep the anime style?

The video starts from your illustration, so line art, colours and shading come from it. Ask in the direction for anime-style mouth movement and an unchanged character design, and keep camera moves small, to stop the look drifting towards realism.

Can the character speak Japanese?

Yes. The lips follow the sound, so any language works. The anime example on this page speaks Japanese with a voice made in the Audio studio. The built-in voices on the Lip Sync page are English; other languages come from the Audio studio or your own recording.

Can an anime character sing?

Yes. Upload a vocal track and the character sings it, from a slow ballad to a fast rap. A clean vocal with quiet music gives the most accurate mouth movement.

Can I use characters from an existing anime?

Only with the rights holder's permission. Characters from published anime, manga and games belong to their owners, and fan videos with them can infringe those rights. Original characters you designed or generated are yours to use.

Is it allowed if the character looks young?

Anything sexual or suggestive involving a character that looks under 18 is not allowed, drawn or not. Keep anime content in line with the Acceptable Use Policy.

How much does anime lip sync cost?

4 credits per second at 720p and 6 at 1080p. A 30-second clip costs 120 credits at 720p. Lip Sync needs a paid plan (from $15 for the first month on Creator) or a credit pack (from $8).

Can I lip sync an anime clip I already have?

No. Lip Sync starts from a still image, not a video. Take a clean frame of the character and make the talking shot from it.

Give your anime character a voice

Add one picture and a voice line or song, and see the price before you generate. Available on any paid plan or credit pack.
